Celebrating Easter at Home

Your Easter family traditions may need to evolve a bit this year, but you can still have a hoppin’ time. In fact, you can celebrate the holiday and make it special no matter where you are with the below tips.

DIY décor

Didn’t have time to grab Easter décor for your table this year? Check out these easy and fun ideas to add holiday festivity to your meal.

• Bunny tail place setting. Make a cardstock bunny and glue on a pom-pom or cotton ball bunny tail.
• Easter egg tree. Gather a few branches from your yard and place in a heavy vase. Cut out egg shapes or use any plastic Easter eggs you have on hand. To attach the plastic eggs: Cut a 20-inch piece of thin ribbon and using a hot glue gun, attach the bottom of the egg to the midpoint ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around the egg and attach to the top of the egg with hot glue. Tie the eggs onto the branches and trim excess ribbon.
• Flowers for the table. Round out your table décor with small glasses full of flowers to place throughout. Or for a more rustic feel, decorate a half dozen milk jars with colorful string or twine and fill with your favorite bloom.

• Technology can bring you together. Say hello through Facetime, Skype, Zoom or several other video applications. Plan ahead for a time to connect with loved ones during your holiday celebration.

• Keep traditions alive. Even if family members or friends are missing from traditions, try to keep them going all the same. You can always include members who aren’t present by mentioning their name, making place cards for them at the table or gathering information ahead of time. For example, if your family goes around the room and shares what they like most about the holidays, simply get your long-distance member’s answer ahead of time and incorporate into your tradition.

• Include them in conversation. Talk about the family members who can’t be present. It’s ok to reminisce about past holidays when you could all be together, or talk about future ones and things you’d like to do. Sometimes when we regularly talk about family members, it’s almost like they are in the room!

• Love the ones you’re with. Cherish the holiday with the people right in front of you. Start a new tradition or plan something fun for you to do with the people you do get to celebrate the holiday with.
