This week, United Dairymen of Arizona, along with the entire trucking industry, celebrates the millions of professional truck drivers who deliver America's food and goods every day.
At UDA, we rely on milk haulers to deliver fresh milk from the farm to our processing plant in Tempe. Milk comes in around the clock, rain or shine, weekends, and holidays. On average, over 200 loads of milk come to our plant every day.
The hard-working men and women behind the wheel safely transport over 4 billion lbs of milk from our farms every year. That translates to over one million gallons of milk per day!
Milk haulers are not only responsible for transporting milk, but they also take the first samples of milk to ensure it is safe before being offloaded.
Celebrated annually, this year's National Truck Driver Appreciation Week runs from September 13-19, 2020. It takes on a special meaning due to the spread of COVID-19. Professional truck drivers stepped up when they were needed most and have kept the economy on its feet despite facing unprecedented obstacles.
